Aina, a San Francisco and Bangalore hardware startup founded by former Ultrahuman VP of Hardware Apoorv Shankar, opened preorders on November 5, 2026 for an AI-focused smart ring with a screen, a joystick, a microphone and a built-in speaker. Early-bird units are priced at $399; the company says the price rises to $499 after that window, with shipping planned for January 2027.

Unlike fitness rings that mostly track sleep and recovery, Aina is pitching the device as a controller for AI agents and everyday apps on iPhone and Mac. You approve or reject suggestions on the ring's display, talk to agents by holding the centre control, and use it as a context-aware remote for meetings, music and connected devices.

How much does the Aina AI ring cost?

Preorders opened globally on November 5, 2026. Aina's own announcement calls out Super Early Bird pricing starting at $399 for a limited number of units, with global shipping. TechCrunch and WIRED both report the same early price, and say the ring moves to $499 once early-bird pricing ends. Shipping is planned to begin in January 2027.

Those prices were checked against Aina's GlobeNewswire release, TechCrunch and WIRED on November 5, 2026. The company has not published a hard end date for the $399 tier, only that it is limited.

What the Aina ring actually does

Aina describes three modes. Aina Voice lets you press and hold the centre control to talk to connected AI agents, take quick notes, or dictate on a Mac (TechCrunch mentions Wispr Flow or Aina's own dictation). The ring has a speaker, so it can also handle phone calls: start with a voice command, then bring your hand to your ear.

Aina Cues are proactive shortcuts powered by what the company calls a Context Aware Operating System. The ring learns patterns from phone, Mac and connected agents — calendar, location, app usage — and tries to surface the next few things you might need, such as booking a usual Uber or drafting a "running late" email. Flick up or down on the joystick to approve or reject.

Aina Remote turns the ring into a live controller for whatever you are doing: music playback, meeting mic and camera controls, or a TV/Apple TV remote when those devices are connected.

Specs and design details we know

WIRED describes the Aina Ring as titanium, with a small display so you can confirm that an agent action actually went through. Controls include a joystick-style shifter for navigation and gestures, plus the centre hold for voice. TechCrunch notes notifications from your phone, meeting shortcuts, music control and smart-home/Apple TV control.

At launch the company says Aina supports iOS and Mac. Additional integrations are promised after launch. Aina has not published a full hardware sheet with battery life, charging method, water resistance or exact display size in the materials we checked.

Who is behind Aina?

Aina was founded in May 2025 by Apoorv Shankar after he left Ultrahuman, where he was VP of Hardware. The company says it spent about 15 months in stealth as a human-computer interaction lab, showed experimental interfaces at CES 2026 under Project Mirage, and shipped Dune — a three-key context-aware Mac keypad — to early adopters before refining the ring.

In July 2026 Aina announced a $5.5 million seed round. The company says it has about 40 people across San Francisco and Bangalore, and has been running a private pilot since early October 2026.

How it compares to other AI rings and gadgets

TechCrunch places Aina alongside other AI-oriented rings such as the Pebble Index 01, Sandbar Stream, Oasis and Natura. Aina's differentiators are the on-ring screen, joystick, speaker for calls, and the push toward agent approvals rather than fitness metrics.

It also sits in the broader wave of AI companion hardware — from screenless concepts to glasses — that try to keep the phone in your pocket while agents wait for a quick yes or no. Aina is not claiming to replace the phone; Shankar told WIRED phones are "too perfect," and the ring is meant to clear the approval bottleneck.

Availability and what to watch next

Preorders are live at aina.com as of November 5, 2026. Expect iPhone and Mac support first, January 2027 shipping, and a jump from $399 to $499 after early bird. Watch for a fuller integration list, battery and durability specs, Android support (not announced), and whether third-party agents beyond Muse/Instinct-style connections work smoothly in daily use.

TechCrunch's Ivan Mehta tried a review unit for a few days and described it as feeling like a smartwatch in ring form, with software still being fleshed out — useful for notifications, meetings and the odd missing Apple TV remote, but still finding its place in a daily routine.

Should you preorder?

Preorder if you already live in an Apple ecosystem with AI agents and want a dedicated approval/voice surface — and you are comfortable waiting until January 2027 with early-hardware risk. Skip or wait if you need Android, want published battery/IP ratings first, or mainly want a fitness ring; that is not Aina's pitch.
