The Duskbloods, FromSoftware's multiplayer game made only for Nintendo Switch 2, will not come out in 2026 after all. On October 29, 2026, the official @TheDuskbloods account said the launch window has moved to 2027, and KADOKAWA, FromSoftware's parent company, confirmed the change in a press release the next day.

There is still no exact release date and no price. Here is what was announced, why the game was pushed back, what we know about how it plays, and what Switch 2 owners can play in the meantime.

What FromSoftware announced

The statement was short: "While development of 'The Duskbloods' is at the final adjustment stage, we have made the decision to move the launch window to 2027. We apologize to players who have been kindly awaiting the release of this title and thank you for your patience and support."

KADOKAWA's October 30 release lists the new window as 2027, the platform as Nintendo Switch 2, and Nintendo and FromSoftware as the publishers. Nintendo's accounts in Germany, France and Italy also shared the news, saying the move is meant "to provide the best possible gaming experience", according to GamesHub. Nintendo's US store page now lists the release date simply as 2027.

Why The Duskbloods was delayed

KADOKAWA points to the network test held in August 2026. It says players showed "active interest in the core concepts of the game, including direct combat, strategic depth, and player expression", and that the extra time will go to "final adjustments to game rules and balancing" so the game is as fun as possible at launch.

FromSoftware has not said which rules are changing. The test itself ran in five sessions from August 21 to 24, and the first session was cut short after players kept hitting login errors, as VGC reported at the time. Nintendo Life says later sessions went much more smoothly. GameSpot notes that FromSoftware has said more people applied to the test than to the one for Elden Ring Nightreign.

GameSpot also points out that the game skipped the September Nintendo Direct, which was the first strong hint that 2026 was slipping. As recently as February 2026 the 2026 window had been reaffirmed, according to GamesHub, but a specific date was never given.

What kind of game is The Duskbloods?

The Duskbloods is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware's president and the director behind Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Elden Ring. It is FromSoftware's first new game since Elden Ring Nightreign, as Polygon notes, and it was first revealed during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct in April 2025.

It is a PvPvE game, so you fight both other players and computer-controlled enemies. You play as one of the Bloodsworn, and matches put up to eight players together to compete for victory points called Virtue. Polygon says there are several ways to win, and Miyazaki has said he hopes matches create "unexpected drama".

KADOKAWA lists online play for 1 to 8 players and single-system play for 1 player. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is needed for online play, and the game does not support Save Data Cloud backups.

Release date and price: what we know

For now, the answer is simply 2027. Neither Nintendo nor FromSoftware has given a month or day, and no price has been announced. Pre-orders are not open on Nintendo's US store, which lists the game as coming in 2027.

GameSpot notes the delay also keeps The Duskbloods away from GTA 6, which launches on November 19, 2026. We will update this page once a release date or price is confirmed.

What to play on Switch 2 instead

Switch 2 owners still have big releases coming this year. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake arrives on November 5, 2026, exclusively on Switch 2. If you were waiting for a FromSoftware game, Elden Ring Nightreign is the studio's most recent release.

For anyone who signed up for the August test, the delay is not a bad sign on its own. FromSoftware says the game is in its final adjustment stage, and the extra months are going into balance and rules rather than a rebuild. Whether that holds will depend on when Nintendo finally names a date.
