Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, and it is only coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you do not own one of those consoles yet, the price of getting in has changed a lot this year. Memory and storage costs have pushed all three big console makers to raise prices, and the game itself costs $79.99. This guide lists what each console costs in the US today, what the cheapest way in looks like, and what the early holiday offers actually give you.

All prices below are US list prices in dollars unless noted. We checked the Microsoft Store, PlayStation.Blog, Nintendo and Take-Two on November 8, 2026.

How much does a PS5 cost right now?

Sony raised PS5 prices worldwide on April 2, 2026. In the US the standard PS5 with a disc drive is $649.99, the PS5 Digital Edition is $599.99, and the PS5 Pro is $899.99. The PlayStation Portal remote player went to $249.99. In the UK the same models are £569.99, £519.99 and £789.99, and in Europe they are €649.99, €599.99 and €899.99, according to Sony's own announcement.

Supply is the bigger problem than the sticker price. Sony said on November 5 that it shipped 2.6 million PS5 consoles in the quarter that ended September 30, down from 4 million a year earlier, bringing lifetime shipments to 97.9 million. Sony has reportedly told retail partners, Engadget reports, that supply limits and high demand will keep store stock tight until next year, and the PS5 Pro in particular is selling out in many places. If you want a PS5 for launch day, do not expect to find every model on a shelf.

How much does an Xbox cost after the August price rise?

Microsoft raised Xbox console prices worldwide on August 1, 2026, by $100 for 512 GB models and $150 for 1 TB models. It also dropped the 2 TB model. The Microsoft Store now lists the Xbox Series S from $499.99, and the 1 TB Series S at $599.99. The Series X Digital Edition is $749.99 and the Series X with a disc drive is $799.99.

Microsoft said plainly why. In its price announcement, the company said console storage and memory prices have gone up by more than 2.5 times and that it expects another doubling by fall 2027. It also pointed out that consoles are usually sold for less than they cost to make, so the company cannot absorb that kind of increase the way a phone maker can. In the same post Microsoft called the Series S the lowest-cost way to play this year's biggest games, and it named GTA VI on that list.

Microsoft also sells Certified Refurbished consoles. On the Microsoft Store the refurbished Series X is $649.99 (list $799.99), and the refurbished 1 TB Series S is $499.99 (list $599.99). Stock changes quickly, and some refurbished listings show as out of stock, so check before you plan around one. Microsoft also offers buy now pay later and 0% APR financing through partners on eligible hardware, depending on region.

What does the Nintendo Switch 2 cost, and can it play GTA 6?

Nintendo raised the US price of the Switch 2 from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1, 2026, citing changes in market conditions that it expects to last for the medium to long term. The Switch 2 plus Mario Kart World bundle is $549.99. On November 5, Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa said the company is not considering further price changes, according to Reuters. The Verge also spotted a $469 Switch 2 deal at Woot that runs through November 30.

The catch is simple: GTA VI is not announced for Switch 2. Take-Two lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch, so a Switch 2 is a fine console but not a way to play this game.

What is the cheapest way to play GTA 6 on launch day?

Going by list prices, the cheapest new route is an Xbox Series S at $499.99 plus the $79.99 standard edition, or about $580 before tax. The cheapest new PlayStation route is the PS5 Digital Edition at $599.99 plus the game, about $680 before tax. A PS5 with a disc drive and the game comes to about $730, and a Series X Digital with the game is about $830. These are our own sums from the list prices above and ignore tax, shipping and any retailer deals.

There is one thing to weigh on the cheaper Xbox. The Series S 512 GB model has less storage, and Rockstar says the game needs up to 212 GB of space for pre-loading. That is a large share of a 512 GB drive, so plan to delete games or buy extra storage. PlayStation's launch guide also tells players to clear at least 212 GB on a PS5.

The physical edition is not a disc game in the old sense. Take-Two said the boxed version contains a download code rather than a disc, so you still need the console's storage and an internet connection either way.

When can you pre-load GTA 6?

Digital pre-loading starts on November 10. On PS5 it opens at midnight local time, and on Xbox Series X|S it opens at 12 a.m. GMT on November 10, which is 7 p.m. Eastern on November 9, according to Rockstar's announcement as reported by VGC. Boxed copies with a download code are due at retailers from November 12 so buyers can pre-load too. The file is up to 212 GB, so start early if your internet is slow.

Pre-orders and purchases made before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders also get a free month of GTA+. The Ultimate Edition is $99.99. Take-Two has also said it will not offer direct discounts on the game for Black Friday.

Are there any console or GTA 6 deals before Black Friday?

A few, but none of them cut the price at checkout. Best Buy is giving My Best Buy members a $50 certificate if they pre-order GTA VI and also buy an eligible new or refurbished PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Console and game bundles do not count, and the certificate is expected around November 25, so it cannot be spent on either purchase. Paid Plus and Total members can instead get 10% back in rewards on GTA VI through November 18, and Best Buy's terms do not say the two offers combine.

Microsoft says its Black Friday sale runs from November 19 to 28, but when we checked on November 8 it had not listed any Xbox deals. Sony has not announced PS5 hardware deals, although its PlayStation Store game sale is live. Because Microsoft says consoles are sold near or below cost, deep hardware discounts look unlikely. That is our read, not something the companies have said.

Will console prices go up again?

Nobody has announced another increase. Nintendo says it is not planning one, and Sony says it has lined up the memory it needs for next year. Microsoft's own warning about memory costs doubling again by fall 2027 is the main reason to stay cautious. If you were going to buy a console for GTA 6 anyway, there is no sign that waiting will make it cheaper before launch.
